D Day 1 (St. Paddy's day!)

Alright - it's St. Paddy's day and it's your dad's birthday, so what better way to celebrate such a momentous day then to fly to Ireland! The one day where all of the Irish get to live out the cliche and completely let go! (then again I heard this is usually every weekend in Dublin minus the green).

My travel buddy this time is Jennifer Pang from Toronto, 1 of 7 other Canadians that ended up on this trip including myself hee hee (and 6 of them are working in the Netherlands, only 4 are from A'dam). Patty, Mei and Jenn L arrived earlier in the day and was able to catch some of the parade. By the time Jenn P and I landed, we missed the parade but heard it was so crowded you could hardly see anything.

NB: when going through passport control in Dublin, try not to stand in line with people that you think will get asked lots of questions cause they will be! We were at the front of the line and after about four flights and about 30 mins later, we were the last ones to leave the area... go figure... I felt like pulling into another lane but was afraid of the 'Office Space' thing haha!..

upon arrival we call up our aiesec MC Ireland contact Aine who was busy watching the 6 Nations rugby game like most of the Irish, but was able to meet us just outside the pub on Grafton street. First impressions - sort of like London, but more suburbia like (at least from the airport to the centre).

and Dublin SCORES!!!!!

watching the last half of the game over a pint was a awesome experience! completely reminded me of flames game time back at home at the pub. after the game, was finally able to meet some of the other trainees also visiting as well - and we head back to the MC flat to drop off our bags and rest. Unfortunately Ireland was beaten by France, so not as much of a gong show as it could be -darn it!

after a bit of rest, we then head out and grab some grub - the ABSOLUTELY best fish and chips I've ever had - totally knocks London out of the park. Damn I can still taste it... the good kind that is wrapped in paper and that you have to eat with your hands.
We head to Temple Bar, which for a long time was an actual bar, but later learned it's an area. Then later learned that there is a Temple Bar in the Temple Bar area.
We tried to contact Patty, Mei and Jenn as they arrived earlier during the day and was already at temple Bar. They wouldn't let us in so we headed up the street to the Turk's Head. When you go into these pubs - they are all quite big! completely not what you expect as one room leads to another which leads to another and usually you can go up and downstairs too.

Got to know Julie (German dame), Dani (cool Bulgarian) and Bruna (cutey of a Brazilian) well and these girls know how to dance up a storm! Pints in Ireland are surprisingly expensive so had to nurse the beers. We also tried the local Guinness with Blackcurrant, it was interesting at first, then once you get to the bottom of the glass, you're ready to go back to regular beer.
Also met some great people through the night such as an Irish couple (that Jenn, Patty and Mei) ended up drinking with for the rest of the night, some Starbucks kids (2 French girls and an Italian dude) and other random Irish people.

When it was about 12am, we decided to meet up with Aine and them as they were suppose to show up at the Turks Head but ended up at another pub. So we decided to ditch the joint and go find them and the rest of the trainees. We spent the rest of the night there (3am). Jenn and I kept saying how much better the music was as well (for once no techno!).

2am - Fiddler on the street.

After a very tiring party night, we all headed back and crashed at the flat. Cheers!
